Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy Manager, Kayte Russell, believes people have the resourcefulness to maximise their potential when they are in an environment which creates opportunities and encourages choice, restoring their ability to live and participate in everyday life. Kayte, with the support of the team, is developing a programme of innovative OT treatments for the patients in both individual and group settings in order to maintain, restore or create opportunities to promote wellbeing.
Occupational Therapy aims to promote independence in all aspects of daily life addressing the physical, psychological and social skills required in completing any desired task successfully and meaningfully. The provision of OT at Cawston Park aims to reflect this by offering a wide variety of therapeutic activities that are responsive to the individual needs of the patients. This may include training through, ADL (Activities of Daily Living) based activities such as cooking, dressing, mobility, management of money, social based groups such as play reading, art work, horticultural therapies gym, arts and crafts, animal husbandry, as well as one to one work where appropriate.
The department carries out integrated detailed individual assessments of needs and risk.
Where relevant these services are integrated with the group work programme and the Dual Diagnosis service.
